Every single cardio move from Level 3 incorporates strength training: either dumbbells, plank pose, or jumping, and sometimes more than one. I don’t know why, but it was pretty much impossible to keep my legs straight in the air, kicking sideways with my abs contracted the whole time.īut the cardio from this level was definitely the hardest of all. The killer though, were the scissor kicks after the already difficult pike crunches. Side planks were annoying mainly because it was hard to muster up all that strength after the rest of the workout had elapsed. I’ve been doing them my whole life (100 on the hard wood floor every kung fu class) whereas some people have just been doing crunches.

I’d never had trouble with abs before Level 3 came along. The plank rows with leg raises I was physically unable to do for the whole minute simply because the dumbbell shafts digging into my palms hurt too much, so I opted to do the exercise on my knees for most of the time. Traveling pushups would be quite difficult for a prolonged period of time, and jumping lunges were very tiring. The first circuit with the traveling planks and supermans I found quite easy, as well as dumbbell cleans. It felt like it was easier than Level 2 simply because there were some pretty easy moves combined with some very difficult ones. Level 3, holding true to the philosophy of numerics, is significantly more difficult than Levels 1 and 2.įirst off, I thought the strength training was pretty mixed. The workout (below) features 3 circuits of 3 minutes strength training, 2 minutes cardio, and 1 minute abs each.ģ0 seconds: dumbbell cleans (switch hands)ģ0 seconds: shadow boxing (with dumbbells)ģ0 seconds: jumping jacks (with dumbbells) I just finished Jillian Michaels’ 30 Day Shred a couple days ago! I dedicated the month of June to getting shredded with a routine workout–something I’ve never been able to commit to, and definitely never for as long as 30 days!Īs always, the trick with this DVD is to combine strength training with cardio training to achieve maximum calorie burn.
